The History of Calvey Marine

We’ve a rich history and have represented shipyards for repair, conversion and new building projects for more than two decades; an accolade we’re extremely proud of.

As we celebrate our silver anniversary, we could think of no better time to share a bit more about our history and divulge the story of how Calvey Marine came to be the prestigious agent that we are today.

Calvey Marine – The Beginning

Calvey Marine was founded in 1991 by Clive Calvey who was already well known in the industry. When Clive retired, Steven and Suzanne bought the business and today, the team is made up of experts with a genuine interest for and experience in the engineering field. As a qualified Marine Engineer, Steven, our Managing Director, has an impressive background in naval architecture and has fantastic experience including working at Gateway Shipping and as Project Manager for a large UK control systems company.

Steven joined Calvey Marine as Marketing Executive in 1997 and became a Director in 2001, swiftly being promoted to Managing Director in 2007. Meanwhile, Suzanne joined the Directors board in the same year following ten years of experience working in banking. As a family owned business, the team at Calvey Marine are passionate about the industry and have always strived to delivery excellent customer service and first-class care.

The Evolvement of Calvey Marine

Since it’s inception, Calvey Marine has continued to evolve and grow its portfolio of shipyards and services. Today, we work with and represent some of the world’s leading drydocks, including Drydocks World Group and Pax Ocean Group and Lisnave Shipyard. What’s more, we are responsible for shipyards in more than 29 global locations; from Hong Kong to South America.

By delivering exceptional service, we believe, Calvey Marine has earned a reputation for consistent professionalism and integrity. Our passion for great customer care and diligent, continuous monitoring of the ever-evolving marine industry has resulted in Calvey Marine now being the go-to agent for many global shipyard giants and drydock leaders.

What’s more, our raft of key services has expanded beyond ship repair and offshore support. Our engineering team now also have broad experience at underwater services and repairing an assortment of marine components including marine boilers, anchors and heat exchangers, meaning our service package is like no other.

Looking to the Future

The future for Calvey Marine looks bright. As we celebrate 25 years in the industry, we’re also pleased to announce a programme of expansion that includes our underwater and marine services. We’re now working alongside a global network of approved dive partners across 300 ports and are well prepared to handle industry demand, in spite of the fact that financial climates have proven tough in recent times.

In the words of our directors: “We believe that good companies evolve to weather any storms that may come their way and constantly adapt to meet changing demands.” This is certainly the mantra of Calvey Marine as we look to consistently improve our marine services, grow our ever-expanding portfolio and maintain our position of leading marine and shipyard agent.
